Contributions The Care and Keeping of a Parish Worship Committee Even though a pastor and a musician are capable of planning worship, it is more fun to include others in the work. The worship that ensues might be richer, but more importantly the people will have a greater ownership of this their "work." Pastors and musicians have an important role - they are the ones most likely to have training in the area of worship - but others bring important gifts as well, including the experience of sitting in the pews. Acolyte Handbook This handbook was designed to be a tool for parents and youth alike. Hopefully, it will answer any last minute questions your acolyte may have. Please use it to refresh your child's memory. Often little details are forgotten when an acolyte has not served in several weeks. Acolyte Installation This is a service that recognizes the ministry of the acolyte and installs new acolytes into this service ministry. It takes place during a regular worship setting. As the new persons come forward they are to be given a candle. The 'currently serving' acolytes will light the candles before the closing prayer. Candles can then be extinguished and the acolytes return to their seats. A Manual for Acolytes You are joining the ranks of those who have helped with the worship service since the year 250 A.D. The word acolyte means a "companion" or "one who helps." In accepting this position you will be serving as a companion or helper to your pastor: performing a number of important functions before, during, and at the close of the worship service. Read the following pages carefully so that you will know exactly what you are to do, when you are to do it, and how you are to do it properly! Worship Assistant Letter To those assisting with worship, a description of each responsibility is described on the sheets that accompany this cover letter. A listing of the responsibilities of each duty performed will also be available at the service for your reference. Should you not be able to fulfill your responsibility for this service and you will not be present because of an unforseen emergency, please get your own replacement for that service. Caller Guidelines for Worship Assistants We are giving all members of Gethsemane as families and individuals to take their turn in helping with the many duties that accompany a worship service. You will be working with other families and individuals as well. They will receive a letter explaining all duties. If they ask what those duties are here is a listing for your reference. |
