Thanks for Being our Neighbor - a Neighborhood Block Party Few people in the neighborhood of Peace had actually been in our building so we wanted to invite them so see what the building is like. It provides an opportunity and place for neighbors to also visit with one another and meet new people. It's a positive way to give some visibility for Peace in the community. The congregation is a part of the neighborhood and we wanted to say thanks to the people living around the church. Community Outreach Meals Each and every Wed., our congregation gathers for a meal together as a community builder for our family of faith, but more importantly, our meal has become an opportunity to reach out into the Sawyer county community in general in order to begin to address the needs of people on the fringes. Augustana at the Orchard This is an idea for a community event. It all started when a member of the congregation offered to share his apple orchard business with us. Brad and Kris Burling, owners of Indian Creek Orchards, were wondering if Augustana would like to make some pies and sell them on a fall weekend. No Walls... Because the rooms had changed the use pattern, a new idea was needed. "Plant a Seed" Mission Project It began with a bake and craft sale at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Participants are given "mission seeds" (10 dimes) in a seed packet to be used to "grow" mission funds and an offering envelope in which to place their "harvest." A list of missions will be published as our project progresses. There is a place on the offering envelope to specify your favorite mission. Covenant with The ELCIN, ELCRN, ELCIN-GELC, and ELCA Called by the Gospel of Jesus Christ as disciples in mission, 60 Lutherans from across Namibia and the USA have come together to worship and pray, to listen and learn, to share and dialogue.
