Contributions Lenten Devotions: Share - Shining The Light “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16. I once heard a story about a wealthy man who owned a mountain cottage deep in the forest. The story took place back in the days when electricity was first discovered. Because of his wealth, this man was able to have electricity in his cottage. Lenten Devotions: Share - Getting Ready For the Harvest [Jesus] said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves…Cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ Luke 10:2-3, 9. As Christians we are called to reach out and share the good news of Jesus with the world. That can sometimes be met with resistance, even from those we love and care for who do not know the One True God that we know. Therefore as we reach out in love and nurture in a world of evil it is true that we are like lambs among the wolves. Lenten Devotions: Grow - About Those Clichés “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18. We’ve all heard these kinds of statements before: “The more you know, the more you know.” Or this one: “Practice makes perfect.” And what about: “Try it; you’ll like it”. These are common sayings. But did you ever consider these clichés when pondering your life as a Christian? Lenten Devotions: Care - The Hand and The Shepherd “The Lord is my shepherd.” Psalm 23:1a. I read of a simple way to think about this verse and the significance of how powerful the Lord is in our lives. This may help you to remember to give thanks and praise to our God and Savior throughout the day. |
