Contributions Teaching the Story Teaching banners are being added to the long-term projects for our companion synod in Malawi. This project will assist those who are teaching Bible stories at the feeding centers as well as at the congregations. Caring for Kids Caring for Kids is a project that will assist our companions, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM), in caring for the increasing number of orphans in Malawi. In Caring for Kids, prayers will be a focal point of the project. People in the NW Synod of Wisconsin will make a simple, child sized quilt and a tote bag to carry it in. Companionship and Pemphero (Prayer) Bears & Hats The Pemphero (Chichewa for prayer) Bear Project is a way to keep our companions from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi in our prayers and in our thoughts. While knitting or crocheting the bears, please pray for love, hope, peace, comfort, support, and good health for the orphans and all of the children. Our prayers can also focus on the women who volunteer their time to work with the children at the feeding centers, and also the women of Diakonia Services who organize the program at the feeding centers Raising Hope in Malawi - Brick by Brick Chetek Lutheran Church wanted to help build a church in Malawi. To help church members remember their companion in prayer during in the fundraising process. Church Roof Project There are presently about ten Lutheran church buildings in the CAR on a list to receive roofs, with a waiting list of many more who want to get on the first list. The leadership of the EELRCA for a time had said that no more walls could be erected because little progress was being made in placing roofs on existing walls. Thankfully, sufficient progress in the Roof Project has now been made so that congregations are building once again. We know, from past experience in our own synod, how crucial it is for a congregation to have a church building if that congregation is to survive and grow. |
